Report on VIDES Meeting Back

The VIDES meeting took place at the FIDES office invoking God’s blessing. The day was honored by the presence of Sr. Anna Chacko, the superior of Sacred Heart Convent, Sr. Sheela Jacob, in charge of VIDES, Sr. Cecily Thomas and Sr. Sumi Joseph. It started with Sr. Sheela Jacob addressing the gathering and formally telling the gathering the meaning of VIDES, the objectives for the year which included saving and appreciating our ecology and its importance in our life, the importance of human rights and safeguarding it through education for all. Last but not the least was not to forget the volunteering which we are part of. She stressed on how we need to take active in it willingly and not under force and also acknowledged about junior VIDES members. She insisted to enlist more junior VIDES members so that they could cultivate the habit of volunteering and learn many more positive values starting from their childhood years.

The event proceeded further by the sharing of the service done by the VIDES members at the cost of sacrificing their precious time. Few of the VIDES members even went from office to office in helping 150 old people and widows to get their pension without taking any monetary profit from them. Another said, how they were helpful to the old and the sick by feeding them, giving them medicines at regular intervals with love, care and affection which was really encouraging and hope- giving to the old, Few others narrated their experience by telling how they solved the social issues by entering into their shoes, understanding and sorting them out. VIDES members also took initiative and planted mango saplings in the surroundings nurturing them through caring and serving the nature. Sr. Sheela congratulated the members for contributing their valueable services and insisted that VIDES did not have a particular type of service but a service which benefitted others even if it meant that one suffers on account of it. In conclusion all took the oath reminding them of their duties and responsibilities before discussing the future plans.

Finally all the members planned for the upcoming year to plant saplings in their home premises and locality, to stand up and serve without the discrimination of caste, creed or religion. The day ended with the thought and motto of VIDES to Give light to others.Tea was served at the end of the meeting. The members dispersed thanking Sr. Sheela and one another
